THE ELEMENTAL
Resort at Gir
We experience our surroundings that are made up of the five elements of nature via our five senses. The resort gets its name from the programmatic derivation of the spaces. Hence, spaces were created giving varied experiential qualities, stimulating all senses throughout the project. The main idea of the project was to create a serene built form that nestled in-between the lush grown mango orchards. The programmatic spaces were crafted in such a way that no trees were cut in the whole building process. As one arrives at the entrance of the resort, one gradually climbs up the ramp to reach the upper level were the whole vista opened up to the large party lawn that is lifted above the ground. By doing this, one achieves the spatial and visual continuity with the surrounding and at the same time hide the built mass on the lower level. Various bridges connected to rental spaces to the main open area, creating skywalks along the site. The construction material used were to be locally sourced stone, lime and wood to respond to the vernacular context at the same time making it cost effective and climate friendly.
